Hanami is a 13+ original historical fantasy rp. It is a character-driven rp and one in which members and staff alike can take part in the constant lore and world development- making the world as creative and diverse as your imaginations will allow.

"Come in!"
Aoi slid open the door to his friend's chambers, casting a quick glance around him as he entered. You could tell a lot about someone from the state of their room (their current state of mind, snippets of their personality, whether or not they had an unhealthy fascination with whips and chains...) and Aoi had long ago made a habit of scanning every room he entered, whether it belonged to a client or no, simply to assess what, exactly, he was walking in to. It wasn't the most flattering of habits, Aoi would admit, especially if it meant treating everyone he met, even his friends, with a hint of suspicion, but it had saved his skin more times than he cared to admit and he was loath to give it up, especially when his current class of client could be both extremely demanding and extremely volatile. Better safe than sorry, Aoi felt, particularly when it came to matters of the bedchamber. Jae's rooms, Aoi was pleased to see, were simply a little messy; some clothes strewn here and there, bedcovers twisted and tangled on the mattress, the edge of a plate poking out from underneath the dresser... Signs of a scattered, disorganised mind perhaps, but also signs of a person with very little to hide. It was the clean rooms you had to be wary of, they were the ones who were trying to wipe out some aspect of themselves they'd rather keep hidden (like a proclivity for philtrums ). Messy rooms, although perhaps more unpleasant to be in in the short-term, were far safer in the long run.Satisfied that nothing horrific had happened to his friend whilst they'd been apart, Aoi proceeded to make himself comfortable at the side of the pool, sinking gracefully to the floor and arranging his tunic's skirts so that they fell just so."Hmmm," Aoi hummed absent-mindedly in response to Akira's ramblings, picking at a particularly stubborn wrinkle on his sash "The palace does seem to be busier than usual, what with the festival preparations going on. I swear all the maids look about ready to cry and I don't think I've ever seen the guards so distracted. They barely even looked my way when I passed by." Here, Aoi looked up and pouted a little, a playful caricature of wounded pride and snubbed vanity, before allowing his face to settle into a teasing smile. "I have to say, given all the faff I'm a little surprised to find you here. I thought you'd be rushing too-and-fro with the rest of them, getting underfoot and being a general nuisance." He leaned forward a little and lowered his voice flirtatiously, "Tell me, Songgie, are you slacking in your duties?"
Satisfied with his teasing, he grinned and leaned back again."I arrived from Sumi yesterday evening so I've already had time to rest myself a little and wash the dust out from between my scales. If you'd seen me yesterday I think you might've struggled to recognise me though, land travel has always been the bane of my existence and Mistress Kazah managed to hire some truly terrible porters this time around. I'm surprised I'm not covered with bruises given how frequently I was jolted about!"

Jae-ha laughed off, flushing a slightly pink as Aoi got very close all of a sudden. They were friends but there was still no denying he was prettier than any other friend he had. He was sure Aoi was very aware of this fact as well. He secretly wished he was that pretty for a split second. But he quickly thought of how thankful he was that Aoi had covered up the worst of the mess that his face used to be. Quickly moving on- the trip from Sumi peaked his interest. " Did you see Takumi? Is he okay? And your sisters? I was going to buy him something but I only have the bag of potatoes that I bought to a few days ago.... I don't know if you can eat potatoes underwater... I haven't tried." He looked around but he couldn't remember where in the room he had left them... Did he eat them all already?... Nevermind. " Did you go anywhere nice there? Tell me about the palace again. And your hometown, is that a big city? Does it have land areas too?" His eyes gleamed just thinking about all the exciting places Aoi went to. It must be such an exciting life that he led! Jae-ha didn't think he was quite up for that much excitement but he would like to visit once- " Next time, I'll get permission to leave for a week maybe and then can I come with you? I'll walk with the porters. We can go see all the sights together. Is Sumi far?" He asked. This wasn't the first time he had said he'd get permission to leave but he was all grown up now and he was certain he could convince Malia that he could look after himself outside. He had always wanted to see Sumi and what merkingdoms actually looked like... Someone had once told him you could see Sumi from the highest tower here at the palace. But in the hours Jae-ha had spent staring into the horizon, he hadn't seen anything. Looking at Aoi, he was suddenly very distracted by how close he was to the water. The perfect splashing distance. " You might as well come all the way in." He teased, using his tail to splash a bit of water Aoi's way. Only he immediately regretted his decision as he sent several Glimmers (potentially there could have also been a Silver in the group but they looked more like Glimmers) flying out of the pool, partially onto Aoi and others across the floor. This is why he was told not to swim with the fish." Ah! My children!" He panicked and swam over to get the anchovies out of Aoi's clothes. " Sorry sorry sorryy!" Jaeha’s barrage of questions hit Aoi like a tidal wave and he struggled to keep track of them as they washed over him, one after another after another. It was as disorientating as being caught in a rip-tide (and in some ways no less violent) and Aoi soon realised there was no way to answer every single one of them (there were way too many for that and he was sure Jae had forgotten half of them already) so instead he picked out the ones he felt he could answer best and, whilst still more questions swept over him, set about composing a satisfactory response.When the flow of question finally seemed to ebb (it took some time), Aoi was ready with his answer (which he gave with a fond smile curling at the corner of his lips).“Yes, I saw Takumi and my sisters and my mother too. They’re all doing well enough; Kiyoko looks set to take over the village with all those ideas of hers, Yuki and Yuko both seem determined to give Takumi at least one grey hair before he turns 23, and Mai grows a little more each day… Takumi’s got some new breeding method he’s trying out right now and he’s somehow persuaded the girls to help him with it.” He laughed a little as he remembered arriving home only to be greeted by an empty house and loud screams coming from the nearby reef. “They send their love by the way, and hope you weren’t too lonely whilst I was with them.”“In all honesty, I think they’d like it if you could get leave one day and travel home with me, they’ve all heard so much about you and I think they’d like to put a face to the stories I tell them. At the moment I think Mai might actually picture you as an anchovy whenever I talk about you and Yuki keeps trying to convince Takumi I’ll leave him for you…”Even as he spoke, Aoi knew it was unlikely his family would ever get to meet his friend. He’d never asked why Jae was kept inside the walls of Haru and Jae had never offered an explanation but still, it was impossible not to notice that the boy was kept on a much tighter leash than the other palace servants. Many a time Jae had spoken about getting leave and travelling the empire. Many a time had it all come to nothing. If Aoi had been given to philosophical thought, perhaps he would have questioned it more but, as it was, he simply found it strange and a little sad and he was determined not to ask about it in case it turned out to be a delicate subject - If Jaeha wanted to talk about it, he’d bring it up in his own time and, until then, the least Aoi could do was indulge him.“Plus, it would be nice to have some company on the journey. The other companions are nice enough but we spend so much time together already we’ve rather run out of things to talk about…. There’s only so much gossip you can share before it begins to sound the same.”Aoi was just about to say more when, rather unexpectedly, he found himself with a lap full of (rather angry) fish. Part of Aoi was tempted to be angry right alongside the fish - these were some of his nicest robes and now they were damp and covered in tiny scales - but, as he watched his friend frantically try to get all his “children” back in the pool, all whilst apologising profusely, he realised he couldn’t bring himself to be even a little bit cross. Instead he found himself smothering a laugh as he gathered a handful of the poor things and plopped then gently back in the water.“Well” he said, not even trying to keep the amusement out of his voice, “I hadn’t planned to take a dip today but I see I haven’t really be left much of a choice. Plus, if I don’t join you I’m rather worried about what you’ll do next and I don’t think your Glimmers and Silvers much want to see what you’ll come up with either.”He stood, brushing a few more stray anchovies carefully off his tunic as he did so, and loosened the ties around his waist so that it slipped off his shoulders and fell into a pool of fabric on the floor (thank AI for trick knots, if the tunic had taken anywhere nears as long to get off as it had to get on they would have been there all day and probably well into the night).
