Welcome to the Port of Hanyu, Sumi's largest on-land settlement and its main point of contact with the rest of the empire. Busy, bustling and full of life, it is said that there is always something going on here and many a traveller has found themselves enthralled by the bewitching hum of activity which seems to fill this beautiful city. Best known as the seat of House Oshima of Hanyu, it has become a popular destination amongst travellers and there are many who would argue no life is complete without at least a brief visit to one of its vibrant and lively festivals.

To the north of Hanyu is Hachisu, the Oshima family's old place of residence from before the empire was born. Once, when the Oshima family was still a single entity, this settlement was the nerve-centre of all of Sumi but, now that the family has been divided, it has lost much of its influence and has seen many of its people move away. Still, despite its struggles, it has managed to remain an important centre for both business and politics, primarily due to the inbuilt waterways which allow mers and their landlocked counterparts to mingle freely.

Even further north is Ryu, home to House Oshima of Ryo and mer capital of the world. Built primarily bellow sea-level with only a few buildings creeping out above the surface and onto land, this ancient city remains a mystery to much of the empire and it is often treated with an uneasy mix of suspicion and curiosity by non-mers. Tales of its otherworldly beauty and its wondrous central temple abound (as do tales of strange and mysterious going-ons) however only those with gills and a tail will ever be able to learn the truth behind these stories for themselves.

WIP
On the edge of the empire, at its furthest western point, is the island settlement of Niji - the place where the earth and the heavens meet and reality begins to blur. Ramshackle but colourful, crumbling but undeniably whole, full of life but dedicated to the dead, it is a strange place, built on impossibilities and contradictions, resembling a dreamscape far more than it does a real place. For a long time now it has been a source of morbid fascination and, although few are brave enough to travel to the drifter infested town, all have heard of it and know of its myths, that it is here that the eath and the heavens meet and where strange and magical happenings are commonplace

Just to the West of the mainland lie the Sumuri isles. It is a popular destination for merchants, sailors and fishermen but many more have traveled to simply enjoy its beautiful landscapes and reefside cities.
