looks
DaeHyun is definitely a model picture of what kind of beauty a mer can hold. While some merfolk decide to shed their scales to keep them away from completely reverting back to their normal form he is proud of them. It's when he just shed his scales that he seems to be the most uncomfortable in his own skin, like he's lost apart of his identity. His scales are a blend of translucency, at the base, darkening into blues and purples when you get to the edges. They shimmer and shine in any light and the artists often compare him to a watercolor painting. One cannot pinpoint exactly what shades of blue and purple his scales hold because those shades seem to be endless.
In his complete mer form his tail is long and muscular, the fins slightly longer than a normal mer, akin to a crowntail betta in the way the fins spread with those pointy ends. DaeHyun is definitely prideful of his fins, and he takes great care in keeping them groomed perfectly, often talking one of his friends into helping him groom the fin on his back that he can't reach himself. With his long tail his movements underwater are powerful and while he is gorgeous in his true form, there is a deadly beauty to him -- looking more like a predator underwater than prey.
On land DaeHyun does not possess as much grace and power as he does underwater -- Aoi is helping him learn that. His hair is a dark, mousey brown color. It's soft to the touch and incredibly fluffy, always seeming to have a light bounce to it when he walks or moves. His eyes hold a knowledge about them which speaks to people twice as old as him. While his eyes are dark and deep there is a pain behind them, one that he tries hard to hide, especially when he is around his friends and clients.

charms
When someone first interacts with DaeHyun they can quickly see he is a very calm individual. Situations that give people great stress seem to slip down his back like the water he loves to swim in. He seems to use stress like a motivator, it clears his mind and calms him, giving him an unhindered look at the reality around him. He fears his budding ability of sometimes pushing his emotions aside to reach a goal, and while it is very useful, he hopes his 'skills' at doing such a thing do not improve. Emotions and carnal responses are programmed into everyone for a good reason, and he feels it's almost unnatural to push such emotions aside for personal gain.
DaeHyun doesn't anger easily, and if you asked any of his friends about his personality they would tell you he is a very serene individual. As mentioned before with his ability to keep himself calm, it transfers into normal parts of his life as well. His emotions seem at a steady, even level. He doesn't get depressed and yet he doesn't feel spikes of extreme anger -- it's like his mind can't even process such a thing. There is always exceptions to this, and with his still young age he can find himself becoming angered and sometimes even petty. With all this in mind he is very mature for his age, and when people around him act very childish he will open his mouth and tell them so. Childishness will bother him on occasion, yet that never means he will completely ignore a childish individual -- he just makes it his mission to make them grow up just a little personality-wise.
To anyone he doesn't know he can sometimes be perceived as a flirt. He thinks flirtation is pretty harmless when it comes down to it. It's just having a little fun, making someone feel good about themselves. People love being flirted with, people love being loved. He will flip his hair and sometimes act like a little peacock, turning himself this way and that in the light to make his scales glitter. DaeHyun doesn't flirt to be a heart-breaker, and he certainly never lets anything go past harmless flirtation. When he knows someone well enough he finds that a personal bubble doesn't exist. Instead of honoring someone's private space he will slide up right against them, wrap an arm around them and rest his head against their shoulder. He'll give a light nuzzle into someone's neck or against their cheek. If the person tells him to stop he might just pout, and whine until they let him continue. Physical contact is almost like a drug to DaeHyun and it's something that most likely helps to keep his serenity intact. He will hold hands and kiss the cheek of a friend in public and not think twice about it. In the end he doesn't care in the least what other's think about him, in the end he strives to make his friends happy....and himself. Because a friend of his KNOWS they have to accept the loss of their personal space around DaeHyun. Take him or leave him, that's what you got to deal with.
Having just turned 18 he is starting he real training with Aoi to become a companion, and while he is in 'work mode' he always stays hands-off with clients unless they pay the extra fee to do so. DaeHyun is still learning the 'tricks' of the trade, and he soaks up whatever Aoi tells him as far as learning his new craft. The number one thing that helps him in his occupation, other than his looks, is being a good listener. When his clients are talking he is always incredibly engaging. He keeps a soft, open eye contact with them at all times, his face always showing interest in what his clients are talking about. Sometimes though, it goes in one ear and out the other, especially when he finds the clients incredibly boring. The clients he sees on a regular basis, however, he starts caring about what they say and about their lives. It's his repeat clients that keep money in his pockets.
His experiences as a young child have made him grow into someone who protects those who can't protect themselves. While he isn't as strong and big as some, he will still get in the middle of a fight knowing he will get beaten up just as bad. DaeHyun would rather take the beating over someone who needed someone to stand up for them. When he was young he needed a role-model, someone to show him a proper path in life. He hopes that he could be a role-model for those who need one.

past
DaeHyun's parents met while they were just starting out in university, Eun-Ae a few years Hien-Jin's senior, but neither of them thought it was an issue at first. For two years the couple grew closer, and near Hien-Jin's 24th birthday he found out that he was going to be a father. The news wasn't taken well and Hien-Jin disappeared almost through the whole of Eun-Ae's pregnancy. It was when DaeHyun was born that he came back to them finally. Holding his son in his arms made him realize he needed to grow up, and fast. After all, the bond between a father and son could never be broken, right? Well....wrong.
As DaeHyun grew up, he became aware of his father's resentment of having to be a father. When he came home from work he often gave him and his mother an attitude, arguing with them and refusing DaeHyun when he asked to play with his father. His mother was meek and submissive, and would never do anything to stand up for herself, or for DaeHyun for that matter. DaeHyun really had tried to get along with his father, and with his parents no longer loving one another and their lives at home being miserable, DaeHyun decided to well ...not be at home.
When he wasn't learning at school he was in the water, spending less and less time at home to avoid his father. It was one of those random days that he was avoiding home-life that one of his friends found him, screaming about an accident. He rushed home and found a swarm of people around his mother, apparently trying to save her life. The attempts failed and it was then that DaeHyun in an emotional rage attacked his father -- automatically blaming him for whatever happened.
DaeHyun, after the ceremony for his mother, went missing for almost an entire month. It was during that time, around 16 years of age that he ran into a merfolk by the name of Aoi. Aoi could tell that he was dealing with a broken little thing, and DaeHyun enjoyed the company, and the shoulder to lean on. Aoi offered him a place to stay until DaeHyun could get a place of his own, and seeing as he would need a job to do so, Aoi introduced him to HoC. Since DaeHyun was still a bit too young to see clients Aoi took him under his wing, slowly getting DaeHyun back to his normal self.
Two years under Aoi's tutelage did him well. In those years he learned how to control his emotions about the death of his mother and the fact that his father was really not a father at all. As DaeHyun interacted with the customers he finally started to feel comfortable in his own skin. His life had turned around, and he actually had someone teaching him, even taking care of him. When he turned 18 he was finally opened up to see clients in private. Since he has just started seeing clients, however, it is new to him, and he still looks to Aoi for advice and guidance.
